RESEARCH and ART FACILITATOR EXPERIENCE

Lead researcher – St. Vincent’s Aged Care and Griffith University

Social Connection Program funded by the Australian Government RTP Scholarship

• Facilitating weekly one-on-one (video and face-to-face) visits to selected residents;

• Facilitating weekly group conversations with residents; and

• Facilitating ‘reading out-loud’ and biography-writing services.

• Writing stories, photographing, designing, and publishing a free, quarterly publication featuring aged care residents’ voices that was delivered for free in aged-care homes.

Creative Project I was there, Griffith University

Book publishing project that featured older people stories.

• Visiting two older individuals (aged 84 and 95) on a weekly basis for a period of two years;

• Assisting them with daily activities such as shopping, cooking, organising and cleaning their homes;

• Facilitating biography-writing and;

• Publishing books featuring participants’ life stories.

Reminiscence Workshop for Seniors - Communify Paddington Respite Centre

• Coordinating a weekly reminiscence workshop to a group of eight older adults (some living with dementia)

• Assisting older people in organising, scanning, and captioning their family archives

• Assisting participants in writing their biographies

• Documenting, designing, and publishing a book that features participants’ portraits and life stories.

• Utilising and integrating multidisciplinary perspectives while providing leadership to hospitality, lifestyle and care staff in the delivery of person-centered care to residents in line with SVCS’s Mission and the Aged Care Quality Standards.

• Undertake a variety of research methodologies to develop and implement practices for continuous improvement in areas such as admission process, exercise and wellbeing program, nutrition and dining service, and staff orientation and training.

•Engage in proactive and responsive communication with families, fostering strong

relationships and ensuring their ongoing satisfaction and support

• Develop, implement, and review care plans alongside families, residents, and nursing staff.

• Audit, analyse and collate performance data and reporting.

• Maintain knowledge of and on-going monitoring of feedback and complaints with the requirements of the Aged Care Quality Standards

Lifestyle Coordinator - St. Vincent’s Aged Care

January – Sept 2022

•       Re-develop the lifestyle program; shifting away from a purely entraining-based approach to an intellectually stimulating, creative, socially inclusive, person-centred, and ‘empowering’ approach.

•       Support, develop and implement activities for residents that respond to individual preferences, interests, and care needs.

•       Provide leadership to six staff members and fourteen volunteers.

•       Provide mentoring to other lifestyle coordinators across VIC, Qld, and Nsw, on improving their programs.

•       Coordinate student placements.

•       Coordinate volunteers’ orientation and rostering. 

•       Evaluate lifestyle care plans for 160 residents.
