I'm currently working on a new book and performance project that begins by transforming discarded cotton clothes and bedsheets collected from aged care homes into a long scroll of handmade paper:

The clothes and bedsheets are washed, cut into small pieces, beaten into pulp using a Hollander beater, mixed with water, and formed into individual sheets of paper by hand and left to dry. Each sheet is then stitched together collectively to create a single continuous scroll. A script written with caregivers is printed onto the scroll. The handmade paper becomes both the the surface of the written work and the content itself. 

The project is currently in progress and, like many socially engaged artworks, will continue to evolve through making and collaboration. At this stage, it is moving towards a final collective performance in which caregivers, artists and members of the community perform the script aloud, passing the scroll from hand to hand as individual voices become a shared reading.
